RABBI FLOYD S. FIERMAN,
Temple Mt. Sinai,
900 North Oregon St.,
El Paso, Texas
DEAR RABBI FIERMAN:
I just recently returned from a trip to Washington where I did some research work for a
few days for the Acoma Indians whom I am helping on their Land Claim. At the National
Archives I had access to a file in the Indian Dept. relative to the investigation about the
thirty year lease my uncle Solomon Bibo executed with the tribe in or about 1884. 1 have the
original copy that went to the Pueblo of Acoma and was interested in seeing the file
mentioned. While there I was told that you had requested a microfilm copy, which you no
doubt have by now. Thot I would advise you that the entire material tends to show that Uncle
did something unethical or illegal. One must know all sides of the story to understand what
really took place and as I am familiar with the main facts, I would advise you not to draw
too hasty conclusions. I hope I can see you some day soon and explain it to you. Some of the
points brot up were amusing to me.
This week I met Uncle Sol's youngest son and asked him if he had any information helpful
to me. He did not, but did have uncle's birth certificate from Germany and a few other papers
including his marriage papers with my aunt who was a member of the tribe from Acoma. Also an
article from a group of friends to Grandpa Bibo, a Cantor at Brakel, on his 66th birthday
with a copy of the 121 Psalm in Hebrew. Can get all photostated for you for $5.40 if you
esire these. Contains his age, date of sailing to Amer. years as Gov. of Acoma etc.
Very truly,
ARTHUR BIBO
