Mr. Emil W. Haury, President August 3, 1972
Tucson Heritage Foundation
P.O. Box 2268
Tucson, Arizona 85702
Dear Dr.Haury:
Thank you very kindly for your letter dated July 13, 1972, which
helped clear away some confusion on my part, and certainly served
to provide me with a fuller understanding of the entire project,
and the part played by the Tucson Heritage Foundation.
Although I bow to the greater historical prominence of Governor
John Charles Fremont, I still feel that the house should have been
named after the original builder "Jose Maria Sosa", thus
linking the house more appropriately with Tucson's Spanish Mexican
historical past.
Irrespective of my feelings, I salute you and your organization
for your work on behalf of the City of Tucson and the State of Arizona,
in providing a window into it's historical past.
Time does not permit us to organize the Soza Family reunion at
this time; however will remember your offer to provide our family
with a tour of the premises.
Our fund raising is progressing nicely and we have reached our
first $1,000.00. We have all the confidence in the world that we
will reach our goal of $5,000.00 within the 120 days deadline. We
have received donations from California, Arizona, Texas, Florida,
New York, Peru, and Germany.
Before October 27th deadline, I hope to personally hand you our
check for $5,000.00 to defray cost of restoration of the "Jose
Maria Sosa Room" in the "Jose Maria Sosa House",
in full acceptance of the conditions outlined in your letter of
June 27, 1972.
Although I jest about the name of the house, I am very appreciative
of the valued contributions made by the Foundation in preserving
the "Casa del Gobernador", and for this I most heartily
offer my warmest endorsement.
Sincerely yours,
Edward Soza
