Sosa-Carrillo-Fremont House Museum) From the Doubletree
Hotel: Right Turn on Alvernon (North), Left Turn on
Broadway (West) for approximately 4 miles. Broadway
turns into Congress by the Greyhound Depot, so stay
on left lane on Congress for a Left Turn on Granada.
(Granada is the 2nd Light past Stone Avenue). Turn
Left on Granada and the nest Left into the Sosa-Carrillo-Fremont
House Parking Lot.

CITY
OF TUCSON OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Colonel
Hugo O'Conor, Commanding Inspector of the frontier forts of New
Spain, established the site for the Presidio de San Agustin del
Tucson within the present limits of this city on August 20, 1775;
and
WHEREAS, Don
José Maria Sosa was a member of the Royal Spanish Army at
the Presidio de San Ignacio del Tubac and of the troops moved to
the Presidio de San Agustin del Tucson; and
WHEREAS, on
September 26, 1794, Don José Maria Sosa was promoted from
sergeant, and was commissioned Alferez on September 26, 1794; and
WHEREAS, Alferez
José Maria Sosa died in Tucson on April 2, 1800 and his widow
Dona Rita Expinosa de Sosa died April 16th at Tubac, and was buried
April 17, 1820 in the Tubac Church, next to the Holy Water Basin;
and
WHEREAS, The
Sosa Carrillo-Fremont House, the property originally owned by José
Maria Sosa III, and where a Soza room has been dedicated in honor
of Sosa and their descendants; and
WHEREAS, the
City of Tucson is concurrently celebrating the 225th year of its
founding on August 20, 1775; and
WHEREAS, members
of the extended Sosa/Soza Family, have resided continuously in Tucson,
and throughout the United States since the establishment of the
Presidio de San Agustin del Tucson; and
WHEREAS, descendants
of Alferez José Maria Sosa and Dona Rita Espinosa have convened
for a reunion in Tucson, to celebrate the 225th anniversary of their
ancestor's arrival in Tucson in 1775-1776,
NOW, THEREFORE,
I, Robert E. Walkup, Mayor of the City of Tucson, Arizona, do hereby
proclaim September 2, 2000,
SOZA FAMILY
REUNION DAY
in this community,
and encourage all of our citizens to join them in celebrating this
joyous reunion.
IN
WITNESS WHEREOF, I have herunto set my hand and caused the seal
of the City of Tucson to be affixed this 2nd day of September 2000.
