Gracias, Marinos!
by Carmen Celia Beltran

A los integrantes del
destacamento
Tucsonense de la "Liga de
Marinos".

Un grupo de veteranos,
Marinos de Infanteria,
estaban juntos un dia
recordando a sus paisanos,
y a los otros companeros
que pelearon muy ufanos
en las barrancas y llanos
de paises extranjeros.

Un entusiasmo creciente,
que pronto Ilego a la euforia,
inspiro la noble idea
que dio inicio a la tarea
de intervenir en la historia
y perpetuar la memoria
de los que fueron al frente
en la Guerra de Korea.

Con loable integridad,
jovenes y adolescentes
lograron ser combatientes
en pos de la libertad.
Se ofrecieron al servicio
militar con gran valor,
y su patriotico amor
les impulso al sacrificio.

A los campos de batalla
doscientos ochenta fueron;
once de ellos no volvieron,
los arraso la metralla.
Porque en plena juventud
sacrificaron su vida,
reciben, muy merecida,
nuestra eterna gratitude

Que se exalte su mision
de la patria en los altares,
y Dios de a sus familiares
paz, consuelo y proteccion.
Fue por designios divinos
que terminada la guerra,
regresaran a su tierra
los intrepidos Marinos.

[English translation] To The Members Of The Tucson Detachment Of The Marine Corps League

A group of Marine Corps
Veterans
were gathered one day
remembering
their countrymen and other
companions
who fought with pride in the
foxholes
and open country of alien lands.

Enthusiasm grew and grew
and inspired the noble idea
of perpetuating the memory
of those who intervened in
history
and went to the battle fields
in the Korean War.

With praiseworthy integrity
young men and adolescents
became brave warriors
in pursuit of freedom -
they joined the military
with great courage
and their patriotism
impelled them to make
sacrifices.

Two hundred and eighty
went to the battlefields,
eleven of them did not return.
Having sacrificed their lives
in the prime of their youth.
They now receive
and very well deserve
our eternal gratitude.

May their mission be praised
in shrines dedicated to the
country
and may God grant
peace, comfort and protection
to the members of their
families.
By divine mandate
when the war ended
the intrepid Marines were able
to return to their homeland.
