Easter Eggs, Paper Cuttings, and Woodworking from Europe

Tucson is home to approximately 700 people who have their cultural roots in the Ukraine, that vast wheat- and oil - producing region just north of the Black Sea in far Eastern Europe. Many of these Ukrainian-Americans have preserved elements of their traditional culture, which serve as proud reminders of the Old Country. Foremost among these are pysanky, or Ukrainian Easter eggs. Many of the designs used on pysanky are also found in other Ukrainian traditional art forms, such as woodworking, Easter eggs and paper cuttings.
