Hen House Wall
Site #14

The west-facing wall in front of you was once a wall of the post trader's chicken house. The holes in the adobe were meant to provide a form of air conditioning, allowing air to circulate throughout the coop and nearby horse stables. Juan Lujan incorporated this wall into his house when he and friends built it in the late 1930s. The house is a good example of a simple Sonoran-style ranch house with red brick trim, which is common in this neighborhood and characteristic of northwestern Mexico and southern Arizona.
