Looking Into the Westside: Untold Stories of the People 1900-1997
Eight youth historians from Tucson's Westside, gathered research and interviewed Westside residents to record what is sacred to this community. They tell the stories of "A" Mountain, their families, local art and artists, neighborhood names, their schools, racism, their streets, their economy, and describe their vision of future developments. Conducted under the direction of the Westside Coalition and the Tucson Pima Arts Council's ArtWORKS program.
Huellas del Pasado ... Footprints from the Past
Students from the Davis Bilinual Magnet School created a bilingual community oral history in 2002.
Music of the Southwest
Fall semester 2002, Professor Janet Sturman of the U of A's College of Fine Arts, created an assignment for students in her Music 334 course, Music in World Cultures. Students worked collaboratively in small groups to research and report on specific content sections, such as corridos, or specific songs, such as Oh, Dem Golden Slippers. Dr. Sturman worked closely with the students to ensure that their efforts were of sufficient quality for inclusion in Music of the Southwest. This website's content has grown enormously from their research. Our thanks to Dr. Sturman and her students for their excellent contribution.
Periodically over the past five years, faculty in the UA Department of English have led students in original research projects using Through Our Parents' Eyes as the model. The result has been some worthwhile contributions to expanding our knowledge of our history and culture.
