Amadeo was a member of the Lombard School of artists located in Milan, northern Italy . Amadeo worked on the Milan Cathedral. These finely carved reliefs, perhaps attached to an altar, could have been part of that project. This tablet portrays: The Adoration of the three Magi.
Each panel shows various artistic styles because Amadeo’s workshop employed several sculptors to make large projects. These are excellent examples of very fine carved marble and of the artist’s attempt to show depth by using reliefs of three figures. [source: tour notes]
