Purchased from the Wilstach collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1956 when the Museum sold off no longer needed items. The cross holding the crucifix, and two candleholders (not shown) to the left and right of the crucifix, were carved from Arizona ironwood by John Bunnell. [source: tour notes]
