Made of silk velvet. The hand-sewn needlepoint symbol shows a pope, probably Pope Gregory the Great (Gregory I, 540? - 604), with his hand raised to give his blessing. He holds the keys to the kingdom in his left hand. He wears a triple pontifical crown. [source: tour notes]
