In October 1896 a military unit on campus started when the Board of Regents approved the uniforms. The heavy wool coat, pants and cap were West Point cadet (undress) style, grey with black mohair braid. Fifty were ordered at $12 per suit. White shirt, black cravat, white gloves and black leather shoes supplied by the student completed the uniform. They were often worn to all classes, particularly in the winter. For warmer weather the khaki uniforms were worn. Tom had several sepia-colored group photographs from the years 1900 to 1903. Two are reproduced here. The Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program started later, after World War I. The ROTC headquarters continues on campus in a different building named South Hall.

The cover is red and blue cloth, the UA colors at that time were sage green and silver and
would not change to red and blue for 15 years.
Marshall wrote, "Twenty-nine years ago the State Capitol was dedicated. I was there
