Esther Tang: La Doña de Tucson, 1997-98

On Sunday, August 17, 1997, Esther Don Tang was honored by Los Descendientes del Presidio de Tucson as La Doña de Tucson for 1997-98. Esther's presentation was part of the celebration of Tucson's 222nd birthday.

By selecting Esther Tang for this honor, Los Descendientes del Presidio de Tucson recognized her many contributions to the community. Esther's selection is also noteworthy because she is the first non-Hispanic to receive this award. As such, it is a powerful statement recognizing Tucson's Chinese-American community's role in the development of a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic city.
