This small, unexpected barrio on El Callejón (narrow lane) is the last vestige of the village of El Fuerte. Many families living here are interrelated, just as almost everybody was related to everyone else in the old village. Until recently most of the women cooked on wood stoves, some standing outside under the mesquites. Streets are dirt, houses are adobe and there are the smells, sounds, sights and feel of a northern Sonoran village.
