The Suásteguis were an established family in Altar, Sonora. It is thought that they landed in Santa Barbara as early as 1776. Baptismal records in the state of Guerrero, Mexico, are as early as 1727. They were goldsmiths and silversmiths.
Two Suástegui brothers married Salvador Moraga's two daughters, doña Juana and doña Guadalupe. Doña Guadalupe married José Antonio Suástegui. They had a daughter, María Guadalupe (1843-1913). She is my great-great grandmother. She is buried at Arivaca Cemetery.
